Change

When to change, what to change and how. These are always the questions to ask when change is considered.

I have my son in a Private school and I have always felt it was the absolute best choice for him. Now I'm beginning to question that choice. Not so much in that the choice has been wrong, but in that maybe the right change would be a positive thing for him. He has watched his sister go through MANY changes, not all of them to her benefit and he doesn't want to go through the same thing. Nor do we want the same things to happen to him. However, the school he is in is no longer meeting his needs. In fact it's as if he is just spinning his wheels with no forward progress. I have offered to home school him because he does much better in getting things done when he is at home. Yesterday he came to me and ask if I would homeschool him, it is unusual for him to bring it up. The answer is yes! However, I will keep him in the same curriculum. In switching Gab around and trying to find what would work for her we really messed up her schooling. Seems that with each change we put her further behind academically. We also taught her that when the going gets tough, change. She would be a much better person today if we had taught her how to find God in the situation and stick it out!
With Kevin, we have taken the road of sticking it out, with all the reasons of why this is best.
Folks he is quite literally at the end of his rope. This is what I told him this morning:
We can change the circumstances and that may help. However, if it's the attitude that needs to change then it doesn't matter how we change the circumstances there will still be a problem. I believe with all my heart that he has tried to stick this out. I want to change his schooling circumstances. I believe that it will be more than tough for him, but I also believe that he needs the change.
Will you please pray with me that God will show me how to go about this. Right now he is 16 and can't quit. Right now he says that he does really want to learn but not in his present environment with the current curriculum. He actually had a very valid point in regards to the curriculum. My fear is that as soon as he can he will quit if there isn't a change.
Can you imagine going to a place every day and feeling like a failure every day. That no matter how much you put into getting ahead, at the end of the day that's still where you are at?!

Please understand, I am not bagging the school!! It is a great school. It just isn't meeting the needs of my son any more. If he could stay on task then he would graduate in two years. That is a year behind when he should graduate and he is not staying on task.

I just want to scream in frustration!!! I go through the whole gambit of he needs a routine and a schedule. Yes, true. He has one. I just do not believe that a child should be struggling this hard to keep up with school work. There needs to be an out let. Other activities to be engaged in. That's a whole nother sob blog.

There is by all means a heart attitude issue here. But what came first? The attitude creating the school issue. Or sheer frustration and constant feelings of failure no matter what he puts into it that created the attitude?! I believe it's the latter. I don't want to ride my white horse to the rescue; yet I am his mother and I believe put here to be his advocate. Thanks for letting me vent. I'm open to suggestions. Otherwise just please pray that God would lead me to the right people and options to consider. Thanks!

Comments

Once again I am unable to make comments on other blogs. Only this time the computer is being selective. I can't comment on Mishel's blog but I can on Z fiddler. I can't comment on most people's blog. This is super frustrating because not only can I not put in my two cents worth I can't read what every one else said. Me nosy?! Who told.

Mishel I'm sorry the the remodeling is on hold and that Rande's back is hurt; at least your nights have been entertaining. :) Does he remember in the morning what he was dreaming?

Heather, I am missing you terribly! I know you are really busy.

Melissa, how is your sister? Have you heard any results?

Julie, I am reading and so enjoying, but I can't comment. Tell Kina I love her new look and I'm missing Sabrina.

GB, I got that raspberry. :) I did get some sleep but haven't yet tried the linky thing. I just about missed your comment stating that we are the same person. Thanks for sharing your secret. ;)

Donna, you mean we can't keep talking to them like they're 3 years old?! ;) I'm glad you figured out the problem. Seems like I remember having a similar problem.

I'm praying for you all. Hopefully I'll post a real blog in the next day or so. I do have one knocking around in my head. First though I need to change the aroma in my house from A LA Dog to something more pleasant. My mother in law is a dog lover thank goodness, but the odor is getting to me. I keep thinking I need to bathe the dogs; good place to start but I'm afraid I'll go from hmmm....dog maybe; to yuck wet dog open the windows! Those of us that live in the desert know too that you don't wash the dog and throw them out back to dry. If you do you get instant mud. Desert and wet dog don't mix! Last time I shampooed the carpet the wet dog odor over came us for days. If any of you have any magic answers other than get rid of the dogs and/or don't let them in the house let me know. Well, that was really random. I often wonder if life would be easier with out the dogs! They always seem to be a source of conflict in my home. The last dog is a blog unto herself, but Michael couldn't stand her. Donna, do not remind me about the dishwasher. The beagle that we have now, runs my son absolutely nuts. Then on the rare occasion that I sit and watch TV the beagle crawls up beside me, sits like a person and puts his head on my shoulder. I'll try to get a picture, I know you're just dying to see it. :) Then the littlest one curls up in my lap. They keep me warm and make me feel loved. Stinky but loved.

I am headed to bed! First though I want to introduce you to a new blogging friend. She has been making comments on my blog for a few days now. She has finally made the jump and joined us @ betweentheditches.blogspot.com.
Grafted Branch was kind enough to send me instructions on how to do the linky thing but it is way too late for me to attempt it. Maybe I'll try tomorrow.

Date #2

Michael and went to dinner Friday night. We shared a plate at a Mexican place. Very nice even though I did take a few phone calls from Gabrielle. There was a reason, ordinarily I turn the phone to vibrate and call her back after dinner. Michael was patient. Then after we eat he asked if we could go to the Exchange to get him some running shoes. He's only been needing a pair for a year now. At the beginning of the meal I was ready to go, now that the meal was over I needed to get home to my Gab. He was fine with it and agreed. When we arrived home we found that Gab's crisis had passed and she was on the phone. Then Kevin got a call from a friend saying that there were WII's at the Exchange. I looked at Michael and said we got to go! I dashed out the door jumped into the passengers side, put the keys in the ignition and had the car cranked before he got there. All the way there he ragged me about how a WII came before his shoes. The store was closed so we came home. I should have let him blog this because he was having great fun with it and had me rolling in the floor. After he spent 10 minutes reassuring me that he really wasn't upset at all, he was just ribbing me about it.

He was up and at the store when it opened and got the last one for Kevin. Kevin has been saving since last July for this game. We have been chasing these tips for months and Kevin just didn't even wan tto get his hopes up. This is the only reason we didn't make him go with Michael to get the game.

Anyhow, Michael got his shoes as well. Every one was happy.

PMS

If you are a male or if you are a female with definite ideas of what shouldn't be aired publicly you may want to skip this post.

I should be used to this by now, I am after all 43 years old. However, I always seem to be caught off guard. You know the days when you seem unusually tired for no reason, or the angry button is incredibly easy to push. Or when circumstances make you cry. There may be a real bonified reason to cry but just a few tears not the gut wrenching belly bawl. You walk around wondering what is wrong with me. Then after a trip to the rest room, you say, "Oh, I should have known."

Or you get half way into town, which is 45 mins away and realize you forgot to stock your purse. As you hear yourself ask your 17 yr. old if she has any supplies you also hear in the back of your head the conversation you had with the same child last week: "Yes, I have some thing but don't you think you're old enough now to keep up with this things?"

This one is my favorite. The day starts and you are in taxi mode and running errands when oh I better find a bathroom. Upon arriving to the public restroom you discover that you should have remembered much earlier. I remember in high school grabbing a jacket and tying at around my waist, we all did. Any one observant enough knew with out a doubt why the jacket was now around your waist. Any how, what at age 43 do you do? Do you grab the cell phone and call your daughter to bring your jacket or do you just repair as much of the damage as possible and return to your car with your head held high and a smile on your face like this was just exactly how you had planned your day?!

I do believe that there should be at least ONE day of the month that each lady can stay in her jammies, eat choc and watch chick flicks and dare any one to ask when dinner is. :)
Michael said that if that day falls on a Saturday he'd be glad to accommodate.
He wasn't much impressed with this post. If you find this offense or not in good taste please tell me!!! I will remove it.

Am I the only one at this age that still doesn't seem to get it? Maybe I can claim just to busy to remember. Senility before menopause doesn't seem real fun!

YEA!

My computer is home! I won't tell you how much it cost. :)

I was able to get on this morning and catch up with some reading before I started the daily Taxi runs. Then this afternoon when I sat down I couldn't get on at all. I was so frustrated, but some one knew that the house HAD to be cleaned TODAY. So, I got both the bathrooms done, found the kitchen table, vacuumed the floors and started more laundry. Michael actually helped find the kitchen counters. He's good that way. It isn't exactly the kind of clean I had in mind, but it looks 100% better! My mother-in-law is due to come in on Friday. One day next week I'll have to drag out the mop and do the job right, but for now I'm happy. Now I'm back to the computer. I finally got on obviously, but I can only read your post, not comment.

Happy Birthday!

Yes, Donna i can believe you have a 21 year old son!

Please tell him I said Happy Birthday and thanks for being so good to his mama.

Time is up.

I'll be glad when my computer is fixed!!!

I Wish and What If

I keep wanting to write a blog about the differences between a dream life and the real thing. As I was drafting the blog in my head God brought to mind this verse: (badly paraphrased I'm sure)
Man makes his plans, But God directs his paths.

See cause for me my dream life would be a very structured one. Sounds boring I know. I know all beings function better with structure but those of us that need it the most have the most difficulty applying it. Oh I can make the best plan in the whole world and I will spell it out in minute detail for any and all who will listen. I will even proclaim just how important it is to be followed and how much easier it will be to stick to the schedule. Then the alarm goes off and reality arrives. I am the first to disrupt the schedule. Get up?! That was not on my list of things to do. Or my favorite: turn off the alarm crawl back under the covers to snuggle my honey and then go over and over in my head what I'm going to do that day. By the time I drag myself out of bed I am exhausted and quite sure that the to do list is done.

Then there is always this part of dream world: There is always someone right beside me to hold my hand and share the fun. Course we are always in agreement to just how things should be approached and done. The boy needs a special diet. OK, let's tackle it. How is it done?
You want breakfast in the morning? I would love to cook it, will you come keep me company while I cook.

Speaking of cooking. I would love to have a cook! Someone that knew our likes and dislikes and special needs. Someone that could read a cook book and clean as they go. The food would be pleasing to look at, good to taste. Not burnt, dry or oops not quite cooked.

Now cleaning. I love to clean. Just clear everyone out of the house and look out. Course you can't tell by looking at my house. See there are 4 of us that live there, each with our own quirks. And I like to clean alone. Have you ever tried to wait until every one is out of the house and going to be gone long enough to get the job done?

Well, this was nothing but pure senseless rambling, but it felt good. Thanks for allowing the nonsense. Time to move on to the next item on the to do list. Oh as to the blog I was draftingin my mind; you can see it never really came together.

Amazing

As I shared yesterday I spent the morning with a friend visiting and confirming something that I must do. It was wonderful to be allowed to talk and realize on my own what needed to be done. She let me get it all off my chest and when I reached the point where I said I guess I need to....; she was like YES. Then we talked through just what and maybe how. See, she can only hold my hand up to a certain point. Now I have to walk through the door own my own. So last night just before I went to bed I read my Bible. I went to Proverbs 23 because that was the date. (I think it was 23, might have been 24. I rarely know what day it really is) Any how I went to reading, only to realize my brain was not focusing. So I prayed. God give me wisdom in knowing how and when to handle this situation. I know what needs to be done. Then I turned the page. OH. Boy. God really does know our hearts huh. The very next verse told me in very plain black and white just what had to be done. Not how to do it mind you, but what. It is a very common, often heard verse that I know all to well. But to read it right after I prayed that prayer. Well, let's just say Jesus gave me NO wiggle room.
So, today I will pray for strength and courage. It won't be horrible because He has proven that He is with me; I'm just thinking I'm going to have to eat a lot of crow. I also know that we reap what we sow. Had I done it the right way to begin with this thing that sits before me wouldn't even be there. Why oh why do I have to learn the hard way! On the other hand, thank you for allowing me to repent and change my ways. also, thank you for allowing friends to be there. why is it that I see God more clearly when I'm surrounded with friends?

I hope this makes a little sense to some one. My time is up. If you ever want to hold yourself to a computer time schedule go to the library.

Oh My

I'm not sure what is worse my spelling or my typing. I'm racing the clock again in at the library. I do not like blogging at the library because I feel like every one can read over my shoulder....yes, I did just say that.

Back to the driving thing. Gab is a great driver. The funny thing she does is this; We get to where we are going she puts the car in park, gets out and walks off. When she realizes I'm not in hot pursuit she looks at me like whats the problem. Umm... the car is running and the keys are in the ignition?! We have had great fun with this one. I can't tell you how thankful I am the she does put the car in park first!

I came in with much more to share but being under the gun is really doing a number on me. I think I'll just go read and visit with you guys and do my blogging at another time.

Thoughts

My computer is sick so I had to take it to the fix it store. I escaped to the base library so I could catch up and leave a note. No, I'm not addicted I can quit any time I want. :)
I am frantically trying to beat the 30 minute time frame so please ignore any and all typos!

Yesterday morning was frustrating. I spent two hours rearranging my living and dining area only to discover that nothing works. Now my house is a wreck and I don't have time to put it back together! I dashed off to my counseling session. Yes, I partake in secular counseling. It keeps me from running off my friends and keeps me from killing the family. Today she told me that I was a very smart woman that was capable of sound judgment and reasonable thought processes. My problem? I have to learn to calm down. Hmmm.. you think?! Ok, so she begin to teach me how to breath and told me that I needed to practice when I was calm so that when I began to become uncalm I could use the breathing to help. This was perhaps the most productive session I've had with her. As I left though I was thinking yea right! Breathing I KNOW how to breath. I can't wait to share this with bloogy world. What I need is some scripture verses that I can memorize WHILE I breath. because you and I both know the only thing that will keep a raging bull calm is GOD!

This morning was much more productive. Since I went to bed at 2000 the night before getting up was a breeze. Michael was up as hour earlier than usual as well. He helped me move the piano back to its original place. Yes, I did move it by myself yesterday, but there was NO way it was going to happen again. Then I spent the morning with my friend eating and chatting. It was a wonderful delightful morning. I do have something that I must do, if you guys would join me in prayer as to just how and when I would be grateful.

While I was with my friend Gab was having an anxiety attack at school. She had tried numerous times to reach me but my phone was off. As soon as I got the messages I tried to call her to no avail. When I picked her up she was fine and shared with me the ordeal. I praised her and empathized with her. It was rough, but she prevailed and got what needed to be done, done, with out me. YEA! I am always there for her and always will be, but somethings just have to be worked through.

Now I'm at the library with you guys. :)

I have a funny to share. Gab has gotten her driver's permit, therefore I let her drive from time to time. She got "bored" with driving really quick. I'm sure it had nothing to do with my silent screams from the passengers seat. She is actually an excellent driver. I'm just not a good shot gun rider; just ask her dad.

Just got told time's up. have to finish later.

Personal Stuff

For those of you that notice I did delete some of my last post. Sometimes too much detail is just not a good thing. I do not for one minute think that any thing I shared was wrong, in fact to me it was very exciting. However, after my friend's question of, don't you think that's personal and my conversation with Gabrielle this morning, I decided that some of it needed to go. From now on my question will be; if any of the people named in this post were to stumble upon it how would they feel? Another question I ask myself is, "Is it mine to share?" For example if a young married couple found out they were pregnant and for some reason shared it with me first it wouldn't be my place even though it is happy news to call and tell their parents!
So, you may be getting more stories like the ship pulling out with out me on it. :)

God is Still Good and I'm Still "Talking"

Saturday morning we woke and got on the road at the time we said we would. That is a miracle! Not only did it happen it happened with NO angry words exchanged. Yes, we did pray about it the night before. We picked Quincy up on time, talked with his parents and got on the road.

We went to Bakersfield to hear a seminar on Creation vs Evolution. The ride went fast and we had great fun. For some reason we can put the four of us in the house and it's war, but in the car we have great fun. Quincy is very quiet though very much a part of our craziness. We arrived in Bakersfield early, had lunch and went to the church that was sponsoring the seminar.

It did not start on time, in fact it was 30 minutes late starting and we were 30 minutes early. The natives were getting restless. Once it started the speaker had to stay with in the pre arranged schedule. So the first hour talk was crammed into 30 minutes. There were many distractions for me throughout the whole thing. Many talkers, cell phone talkers and noisy children. I was amazed at the lack of respect for the guest speaker.

On a more positive note the material covered was excellent and the speaker was very approachable and conversational after the presentation. We walked away with 4 or 5 DVD's a book and a much lighter wallet. :) Maybe we'll have a movie night at our house some time soon.

Then we went out to eat and found a motel room. Well, 2 motel rooms, one for the guys and one for the girls. :)

The next morning was another miracle. We actually checked out of the motel at 0930. That is usually when we are rolling our lazy selves out of the bed. Being in a motel is a luxury vacation which means sleeping in, right? Gabrielle and Quincy were actually the first up and dressed, so they went to breakfast in the motel coffee shop while the rest of us dressed. Then they sat with us while we ate. Then we hit the book store for a while and started home.

I just love hearing my husband talk about the Bible. The things he retains and has learned just from reading and studying. I say just; I know the Holy Spirit is involved. I wonder if God brought us Quincy for Quincy's sake or for Michael's sake. I'm excited to see what the Lord does with this. Course Gab would say that Quincy came for her. :)

God is Good!

1. Thank you so much for your kind words of encouragement and prayers!! Since my request for a friend the following things have happened:

A good friend that I have had for a long time reached out and got bit. This opened the door for healing and comforting and the start of a deeper more open friendship. I'm thankful for her patience and grace.

Many of you responded via blog and e-mail with support and encouragement. My sister pointed out that there are actually many different seasons of friendships. I keep telling her she needs to join us in the Blogosphere.

Many years ago I met a woman who was a very good friend to me. In fact she was very much like the very friend I had described in my blog. I was not thinking of her at all when I wrote that blog, though she has been on my mind for several weeks now. I kept meaning to try to find here via internet info. We were transferred from the area so the friendship became a long distance friendship. She even came out to California to visit one summer years ago. Anyhow, she left a message for me on my cell phone today. I haven't called her back just yet because of the time frame and because we will talk until the battery is dead!!

I think my request for a friend actually should have been more of a prayer for God to open my eyes to the friends that I have!! No matter He knew and you prayed and I'm rejoicing.

Thank you

2. Michael and I went on a date Friday night. We had a really nice time. He is such a great man. He took me to eat and then we went to see The Pursuit of Happiness. I always hesitate to admit I go to the Theater much less recommend one for others to go see, but this was really a great show!!
Then on the way home we had an argument. An argument that we have had on many occasion. Rather than go home we found a place to park (on base) so we could talk things out. So between cop checks we resolved this argument. This time it had a different ending! After reassuring the kind (very young) officer that we were indeed ok; this statement was made:
I will take responsibility for this. Shoot, I was going to try to make this generic but that will get confusing and take twice as many words. Lets face it I'm mighty wordy to begin with! So here's the skinny. I frequently respond to my husband in a certain way verbally that infuriates him. I know this and feel that I constantly guard my words as to not offend. However, when I become relaxed and comfortable the words just roll and the brain thinks out loud. You got it, wham the damage is done. I'm crying and apologizing all over the place and then fall silent. My wonderful knight in shining armor says, I will take responsibility for my part in this. Whats that angels singing?! I told him that was the first time I had ever heard him say that and it was music to my ears. Then I pointed out to him that he is male and I am female and that we think and approach things differently. When he shares with me an idea or a dream, I immediately jump into the mind frame of how can we make this happen? What obstacles are in the way and how can we move them. Not to mention that I think out loud. So the first words out of my mouth are identifying the obstacles. What he hears is the "negative" What he wants to hear is what a great idea!! I do say that it just isn't the FIRST thing I say, by the time I get to that he has shut down. So, I will continue to try to let the cheerleader come out first and/or ask questions and learn to listen to the whole thought before I jump in. He in turn will understand that I am not trying to find fault or be negative. In actuality I am working to identify and remove the obstacles. And when I mess up rather than taking offense and shutting down he will remind me that he isn't stupid and of course he wouldn't let Kevin sit in a room from 9-5 with nothing to do while he was at work.

I guess all I had to say was we had an argument that ended in a much more productive happy way.

I am not dealing well with the thought of him not being here in 5 months. He really is a wonderful and amazing person.

Do You Know What I'd Like?

I would like to have a girlfriend. Don't get me wrong, I have lots of friends. Good friends. Praying friends.

What I'd like is a girl friend. Some one to go see a movie with, chat on the phone with, share ideas and frustrations with. Not some one to dump problems on, but someone that could listen and help keep problems in perspective when needed. Some one to share a cup of coffee with. Or maybe some one to call and say hey we both have to cook up a meal for the missionaries why don't you come over and lets do it together. Some one to laugh with.

Not some one to replace or take away from my husband! I believe a girl friend would enhance my relationship with my husband.

Why don't I be one of those kinds of friends? I would love to be. While this kind of friend would be a wonderful asset to any lady it is a hard thing to accomplish. Esp., when we work, home school our kids, stay active in church activities and don't neglect our husbands. However, I know it can happen; maybe it's just a once a month *date* and a weekly phone call. I also believe that I tend to be a very needy, clingy person, which can in all honesty be very exhausting.

I will continue to keep my commitment of having families in my home and maybe, just maybe God will see fit to bring me a girl friend.

Is it wrong to desire this kind of friendship when I have a wonderful, supportive husband and two children to tend to? I look out at the world and I see other Ladies that seem to have this kind of friendship. Ladies with in the local church, not worldly ladies.

Don't Miss The Boat

Do you ever feel like you just missed the boat?! You spent gobs of time packing and making sure your luggage got on the boat. You checked over and over the times that you were supposed to be on the boat for launching. You made sure your family was where they were supposed to be when they were supposed to be there. There was much hustle and bustle, noise and confusion. You were worried but you knew with out a doubt that every thing had been covered and double checked in great detail. Then the Ship's horn blew and the Ship began to back out of the slip. You were standing at the railing with the crowd, waving and just beginning to relax when suddenly with great horror you realize you are not on the Ship!! The railing you are at and the people you are with are NOT the people on the boat! What ever do you do? There is nothing you can do; you have missed the boat.

Some times we pay so much attention to the details, or to the one particular detail, that the REALLY important one is overlooked, or not put in the right priority. What do you do? You stand at the rail and you watch and you pray! You don't give up and you don't quit. You avail yourself and keep the communication lines open so that when that Ship begins to take on water you can talk the person on the boat through finding the Life line and the life boat. You pray, knowing that even if they survive the wreckage there will be scars to contend with.

Folks, I don't know if this makes a lick of sense!!! I just have a very personal situation in my life right now and I feel as though I have completely missed the boat. I can tell you that I for sure didn't miss the boat for lack of trying. I spent much time making sure that departure would be smooth and informed. I believe that the boat is indeed taking on water, though rescue help is being deflected. There may be mixed messages being sent and received. I will continue to keep the communication lines open between myself and the boat and more importantly my Savior.

At this point my tears alone could sink the ship. My worst fear has not come true. But I am now realizing that in paying attention to that one particular detail, I missed the boat.

Rotten Apples

I just *love* reading blogs! Then when I'm driving back and forth to Yucca Valley I mentally write my blogs. Then I sit down to type and every thing I thought that was funny, is plain; what I thought was meaningful is trite. So rather then write I read. Wow! Encouragement, struggles, life.
Course you won't get off that easy;)--- now I write.

Today I read a wonderful post written by Grafted Branch at restoringtheyears.blogspot.com. I don't know how to do the linky thing yet. It is very well written and very timely for me.

I have read two post by two different Southern women,(Boomama and Bigmama) that have wonderful humor. The combination gets me every time. I'm from the south so I can just hear their voices in my head, though I don't know them.
Anyhow, their post was about PMS, Sunday mornings and little children. I could so relate and actually thought glad mine aren't little anymore. HA!

Sunday morning. Son doesn't care to join us for Sunday morning. I'm going to try to be brief. PMS is not my excuse for my behavior and little does not describe my son. I informed him as he sat up in bed with his covers hiding his head, that if he did not get his shower and join us, that I would take his games and bedtime for the rest of the week would be 2100. Then I slammed his door with gale wind force and stormed to the kitchen. I went back, no he was not going to join us. Now I am breathing heavy and talking to myself. Hubby is keeping a wide berth. I am his mother, he is a 16 year old child and I have every right to make him go to church with me. This is what I am saying out loud to myself. So I storm back into his room, jerk clothes off his hanger and throw them at him declaring that he didn't have time to shower, get dressed you are going to church! I again stormed from the room. Taking heaping gulps of air, I'm now realizing that this guy is not 3 and 30 pounds. If he refuses I have a bigger problem on my hands. He got dressed and we all made it to church on time. Emotional manipulation?! Right idea wrong approach.
See why Grafted Branch's blog was so timely for me this morning?

Then this morning as I was taking Kevin to school the whole thing came up again. He likes to stay up late Saturday night to see a show. I allowed it as long as he gave me no trouble getting up for church. He assured me that it didn't matter what time he went to bed he wouldn't be getting up to church. He said several other things that hurt my heart and frightens me a great deal in regards to his heart. Which again made me think of Grafted Branch's post as well as Mishel's Post at Seasonsofmylife.blogspot.com: The heart of the problem is a heart problem.
There is no doubt that this little; how 'bout huge guy has a heart problem! However, in looking back on my behavior and attitude; is not the problem MY heart?! Is his attitude my heart reflected?! Don't get me wrong; I will not take the sole blame for his actions and decisions but have I not sown seeds into his heart?

My friend helped me put my blog look together and she chose the verse at the top. The last 2 days I have been reflecting on it as I think to write. I believe my words have been rotten apples! My inconsistencies and seeds sown will not resolve themselves. I am thankful that God is allowing me to see the wrongs, now I pray that I will yield to His Spirit and grow through this and not camp out and become the martyr. There is nothing worse than seeing your children suffer because of seeds you have sown.

Please Dear Lord, Create in me a clean heart willing. Let the flesh be dead so that your strength can carry me through. Bridle my tongue! Allow my words to be encouraging and up lifting. Help me throw out the bad apples and stop just rearranging them so that the bad doesn't show.

Success

Today was the day we had our first guest. I put the roast in the crock pot and Gab finished filling it with veggies. It was loaded. We turned it on high and left for Church.

When we got home it smelled good. When I checked it the meat was still uncooked. OH NO! I knew I should have put that roast in the pot last night! What to do. I turned on the oven and put the roast in a pan in the oven. After much debate, hubby decided to go to the store and get crackers and cheese; who knew when we'd actually eat. Then I called a friend. I was spastic; trying very hard to remain calm. She reassured me that I was doing the right things and that the roast should be done in an hour. Then she prayed with me. That was really nice and helped me take a deep breathe and calm down. This family has actually been to my house before and we know that we get along well. It isn't like I was trying to impress.

They showed up and then Michael came in and we all pigged on crackers while we waited on the main course. Then I burned the first round of corn bread. Fortunately, I only made one box, so I mixed up the other box and tried again.

If you focus on the sweet fellowship and the ability to laugh at and with my mistakes then it is safe to declare the meal a success. Certainly not flawless!! The fellowship was wonderful. I always enjoy this family when we spend time together.

I do hope to learn how to relax and allow things to flow. I have had people to dinner before and handled it very well. I know I can do it, I'm just out of practice. I'll just have to invite them back again. :)

This morning I got up ready to tackle the day. Within about ohh 30 minutes my day had over whelmed me. I have no clue why. Seemed nothing was going my way; but I wasn't aware of any particular way that I wanted it to go. Kevin is away with a church function and Gab was expecting a friend over. I was cooking and cleaning and stressing.

Finally I told Michael that I had to change Sunday's menu. I was really stressing over the timing of how that was going to come together. He didn't quite get it, but could tell from my tone that it wasn't wise to challenge the change. Then he went to the store for me. Those 2 things helped tremendously, but still the cloud hovered.

About the time Gab's friend was to arrive we got a call from the community Playhouse. A pipe had busted and the place was flooded. The entire theater. So Gab called her friend and re-routed him to the Playhouse and we all dressed and headed that way. At first Michael didn't want to go, but when I told him it might help my mental state for us to go, he was dressed and in the car waiting on us. It did help me. To get out of the house and quit focusing on myself and my house. To be out in the very cold sun shine helping clear out a mess. To feel a part of something meaningful and to know that your actions are helping; that's good medicine. By the time we got there the electricity and the water had been turned off. The firemen had been out to asses the damage. We're afraid there is more damage than what actually meets the eye. The good news is there is a good possibility that the damage will be covered by insurance. The pianos suffered no damage. We helped move things to the back building and the rest onto the stage, which was dry. I couldn't believe the water and most of it had been dispersed by the time we got there. The theater people were just a cooking for those of us that came to help and they verbalized their gratitude freely. I was more than willing to help and grateful for the distraction.

We didn't stay to eat; we came home and ate. Then Gab and her friend went out leaving Michael and I alone. Here I sit blogging and he is watching TV. We must be getting old! :)

I look forward to tomorrow. Church and then friends over. It will be stressful initially; just because I'm weird that way. But once we sit to eat, I'll relax and be sooooo glad that I opened my home to friends.

My Mantra

I didn't create it, I didn't cause it and I can't control it!

I can pray about it; I am so thankful that the Holy Spirit will take our moanings and groanings and translates them to Jesus.

On a different note: Michael will be leaving for Okinawa by himself in July. I can not even began to express that mixture of emotions inside me; nor would I want to in a public blog. :)
Even though this situation fits well in the above mantra and will indeed help me deal, it is just an addition to what causes me to chant the mantra.

Time to tune into others and lift them up in prayer least I become bogged down in the Eeyore syndrome. "Woe is me"

Yikes, what a depressing post.

The way I learned the mantra is I didn't cause it, I didn't create it and I can't control it but I can consequence it. There is nothing to consequences so I added the prayer part. It belongs either way.

Have a great day!

Okinawa

Here's the latest. The kids and I didn't clear the medical board. So we for sure won't be going. Now there is some question as to whether or not Michael will go. Things that have to do with work not family. We aren't in the clear just yet. We may still get orders to move some where eles or they may still send Michael to Okinawa with out us. The most frustrating thing to me is that there is an opening for Michael's rank RIGHT HERE!!! VERY few people actually WANT to come to 29 Palms and we'd like to stay because of our family needs. Why can't they just leave well enough alone for the next year or two?! OK, now I feel better, I vented. This is not something I can control. I have to look past The Marine Corps, to Jesus and trust Him.

Rib Roast?!

Ladies, what in tar nation is a rib roast and how the heck do you cook it? Why do I ask?
This Sunday we are having friends over for dinner. In my excitement I began the stress game.
What to cook. Something in the crock pot so when we come home from church it will smell yummy and be ready to serve? Some thing I can prepare the night before and just heat and serve after church? So I asked my dear husband. After some thought he suggested a rib roast. "Oh yea right!" I continue with my suggestions and then looked at him and realized he was serious. "Honey, I've never cooked one of those before and my track record isn't so great." What if I help you? "Then our guest will be entertaining themself while we cook. I just don't think so, not this time." So, he switched gears and suggested smoked pork chops, fried okra and mashed potatoes. These people are California folk; not Alabamians. OooooKaaay, I say. That will be kind of time consuming. So then he's says cook turnip grees instead of the okra. That's what I'll be cooking this Sunday. Next time maybe I'll ask you guys first. ;) I love the meal plan, I'm just not sure how quickly or well it'll come together after church. AND, I'm thinking I better make sure they like turnip greens.

So, back to the rib roast. I was thinking maybe I'd surprise my hubby with a culinary wonder, and attempt his request, for just us. Hopefully, it will be a delight and not a: "I wonder what that is...was?! Any suggestions?

Bible Study

My church does not have a Ladies Bible Study. We have WMF and Ladies Ministry. They each have set functions that they plan and prepare for. Good ministries; but not a Bible study.

Would any of you bloggers (the study would be for anyone, I'm just blogging so I addressed the bloggers) from my church be interested in meeting twice a month for Bible Study? We could take turns meeting in a different home. That way not one person is carrying the load. I think it should be the same day of the week each time but maybe the time can be flexible depending on who's home it is in. Refreshments could be brought by some one different or just let the host offer refreshments as well. Some thing simple. My husband wants me home in the evening, however he wouldn't mind me going to a Bible Study if it was an occassional thing. By being flexible with the time more people can join us. (those that work and those that don't)

Miss Julie could we use your Bible Studies? If so, should we have one person give the lesson each time or since the studies are obtainable via computer the host could also be responsible for giving the lesson. That puts a heavy load on the host but it wouldn't be all the time. Once every two months depending on how many we have.

What do you think?

Once Saved Always Saved

I do believe in once saved always saved! It is not by anything we can or can't do but by what Christ did for us on the cross.
Where I find my thoughts going is in the questioning of whether or not the conversion was real or merely a following the crowd kind of thing. Heather you made a statement though that helped that a little.
When someone says that they received Christ at age 12, but when you meet them at age 16 they tell you they believe in Evolution and the Bible isn't real; wouldn't you question their Salvation experience? Course, I don't live in that person's mind or conscious, maybe the Holy Spirit is in there working on their heart. I guess our responsibility as a Christian is to pray and be available for conversation as opportunity presents.

Travis

Gabrielle and I teach the 3 & 4 year old Sunday School class. Shortly after we took the class we met Travis. He came to church on the bus and his brother would walk him to class. Travis would cling to his brother for dear life. So, I let brother stay that first Sunday or two. Then the day came when we asked brother to go on to his class. OH. My. Goodness. That child screamed like we were killing him. Drew the attention of every teacher down the row. One from each class came to check on us. Of course at first we tried to distract him, reason with him and console him. Finally, we invited him to join us and then ignored him. I was most amazed at Gab's ability to handle this situation. It is actually her class, I just help, so I followed her lead. Then one Sunday I noticed Casey, the bus caption walked Travis to class. No screaming. So peaceful. He wouldn't interact with us, he sat by himself and pouted. Again, we invited and then ignored. I always greeted him with much excitement and enthusiasm. He would come in dirty and oddly dressed. I actually considered reporting the situation to social services, because I believed there was neglect. I mean isn't that what any well meaning Christian Sunday School teacher would do? :( No, I couldn't do that, at least he was coming to church. So, I started to pray for little Travis. Just when he came to mind I'd pray. Eventually, he would hesitantly join us, or be with us from a distance. I no longer ignored him, but I made sure I gave him lots of space. One Sunday I reached to hug him or pat him, I can't remember which and he pulled away from me. I said it's ok I just wanted a hug, is it not ok for me to touch? He told me that no one could touch him but his mom. I said ok, no problem I understand! I didn't try again. Oh, sometimes I would forget and pat him on the head but he was ok with that. Then one Sunday he came in wearing shorts and a matching shirt with spiderman on it. I think his shoes were even spiderman. I commented about spiderman and he backed away and said it was the only thing clean, all he could wear. I reassured him that I was just super glad he made it to church and thought to bring spiderman to join us. The next time I saw Travis he was clean and his hair was combed. I'm sure I over did the wow! you look great. :) Ok let me wind this up to the really good part.
Today my Michael helped me in class. Travis took to Michael. They were talking and interacting and as I watched Travis leaned into Michael's shoulder to watch what Michael was doing. I was amazed. THEN, Mr George came into the classroom and Travis ran to him and wrapped him in a hug.
I am so thankful that I got to be a part of this transformation. To see this frightened dirty little kid, come to life with the love and attention of the people he came in contact with at church is just amazing to me. It shouldn't be. This is what we as Christians are called to do and called to be. But seeing it first hand and knowing that I was a teeny tiny small part of it makes me see God.

Thank You Ms. Julie!

I am so excited! Julie called me today and spent some time up grading my blog for me. I just love it. Now I know how to do it myself. Thank you very much!
What a slow day this has been. I really have nothing to share, but in reading blogs and in commenting on how fun my kids are I remembered a story. A while back the kids had me rolling in the floorboard. I didn't tell the story because at the time Gab was blogging and she is much better with the written word. She never told the story so I'm going to try now.

We live on a military base so we have to go through the guard gate to get to our house. I heard Michael explain to some one the other day that we live in a gated community. :) Any how, one day as we came through the gate, off to the side I saw the strangest contraption; reminded me of a deer stand. So when the guard (kid) stopped me for ID, I ask him what it was. The kids said that I asked about the hen house. This I don't remember, but I did ask if they were hunting deer. The kid told me that it was a sniper hut and that I was in their sites as we spoke. To which I commented that they were just hunting a different kind of deer. At this point my kids were rolling at my expense. The guard himself was having a hard time keeping a straight face. As we roll on through the gate we are just laughing and carrying on. Then we actually past the deer stand/sniper hut, Kevin makes a noise and slumps over in his seat as though shot. I was laughing so hard I was crying.

You know the retelling just doesn't quite do it justice. You had to have been in the car with us. My kids feed off each other. It was great.

On a different note all together: Some one had suggested a web site for us to visit on Creationism. ICR.com In going to that site I found that there is going to be a seminar Jan 20th in Bakersfield. So, Monday I will be signing us all up to go and Quincy has agreed to go with us. I think we'll have great fun. I don't know anything about the seminar other than what I've just said. Even Michael is excited about going.

I need to stop blogging about Mr. Quincy out of respect to Gab. However, since I did ask all of you guys to pray I will update you as to the latest. It seems that he does know the Gospel and that at age 12 he prayed to receive Christ. Gab is ecstatic and Michael's belief is once saved always saved.

I think I'll go make cookies and bread. Then I will prepare myself for Sunday. Have a great day!

Guess what I learned how to do?!

Ain't we all so pretty!

The Living Desert

My first comment: Wanna hug?

Kevin's first comment: Don't fall down he's ready for lunch.

Gabrielle and Quincy

Wanna neck?
If you look really, really close you can see two camels with their necks wrapped around each other. It was quite interesting and amusing to see.

Doesn't he make a cute butterfly?

It's a Dog's Life

Meet Tyke the Beagle and Roxie the Chu, oh I can't spell that. They have such a rough life. ;)

Kevin has been teaching them to stay off the living room furniture and out of the kitchen. So the dog bed lives in the living room now. Then they found this other chair by the computer. Looks pretty cozy to me. At night we have to flip the cushions up on the living room furniture to keep them from sneaking.

I just read about how Boston loves to help with the laundry at her house. Tyke knows just how to get our attention. If he's howling talk is ignored then he'll find a sock and toss it up in front of us. If this doesn't work he'll take it into the back yard via the doggie door. I thought that door was just the greatest invention of all time. Now I shudder to think what I'm going to find out there next. My neighbor promised to call me right away if and when she sees our underwear decorating the back yard. We try to keep the door to the bedrooms and laundry room shut, but you all know what that's like. Life gets busy.

Have a wonderful relaxing day.

End of the Day

I had a busy productive day. Sat down to create a new post and post some pictures. First though I wanted to check in and see what you guys have been up to. My how time flies. Now I must be off to bed! I have been staying up way too late and getting up has been less than fun.

My husband cooked supper for me tonight! My oh my can that man cook. I told him he could put food on my table anytime he wanted. I'd buy the food and clean up the mess. He assures me that I am quite capable of cooking a meal just as nice. "you just have to cook and NOTHING else." See when I cook I'm doing at least 5 other things at the same time. When Michael cooks he is totally focused. Unbelievable. You don't even talk to him.

One time years ago my mom was in for a visit. She and I went out to do some shopping and while we were gone my husband cooked dinner for us. When we came in the front door the table was set with the most beautiful baby back ribs and fixings you'd ever seen. As we came to the table my mom just couldn't stop going on about how impressed she was and how good it taste. Then she looked into the kitchen. I thought the woman was going to pass out. Michael had managed to use every dish and utensil in the house. At the time he hadn't learned the concept of clean as you go. Great meal, but man WHAT a mess.

Needless to say, I LOVE it when my man cooks; even if I do get stuck with the dishes. :)

0830 HA!

We finally rolled out at 0930 and got on the road at ~1100, putting us in San Diego at ~ 1430. (2:30). The alarm went off at 0600, but I turned it off. LAZY Also, stubborn and/or rebellious. I'm tired of being the first one up and having to get the rest of the crew going. They were all told to set their alarm and figure out the bathing order of the morning. WHAAA! Do you hear the woe is me? The martyr just dying to be noticed? We did make it to the Air Museum. My husband is amazing. A walking encyclopedia on air planes. I was trying to read the markers only to realize he was telling me every thing that was written. He amazes me. The kids were off and on their own program. Gab had the camera and was having a hay day with it. She got some good pictures of Michael and I. I'll try to post later. They would cruise by and check in with us. Every now and then I noticed them actually enjoying and reading the exhibits. When we left the museum we went to Anthony's. Wonderful seafood. It was on the water and we watched a cruise ship leave port. Then back in the car fro the ride home. Kevin is quite the comedian. I told my kids that when they grow up they were going to be famous and well off and it would be all my fault. See they fuss at me because I'm always talking about food and therapy. I constantly read self help books and spout all my learned knowledge. As a result Gab has decided to be a psychologist and Kevin is a natural stand up comedian; his material: me and food.
Oh, I forgot to share that Gabrielle drove all the way!! She did a GREAT job. I was proud. Course Michael was in the front seat and I was in back with my head in a book.

Speaking of books, a good friend gave me an Elizabeth George Bible study on James.
So far I've been reminded to go to the feet of Jesus BEFORE calling (or blogging) a friend; even if it is to ask for prayer, to bridle my tongue, and to ask for wisdom with no doubts. After reading this I self talked to this tune:
It isn't God I doubt, I know He'll give me wisdom when I ask. I just don't trust myself to receive it and apply it. Hmmm, the verse doesn't say don't doubt God, it says do not doubt. So I have to change my thinking. I always ask for wisdom, but since I'm doubting when I ask I am a double minded woman and unstable in all my ways. How sobering.

I suppose I should go to bed. Tomorrow it is back to the rat race. Kevin is back to school, his favorite place to be. :) Gab doesn't start back until Jan 16th. I hope to do a marathon house cleaning tomorrrow, maybe she'll help. In all fairness to her there are times when I want to do it all myself. It is my way of ordering my world and feeling centered. Course that in no way helps her or trains her to be a good house wife. :(

Happy New Year!

We started the new year by sleeping in late and then going to a movie and dinner. We had a really nice time together. Tomorrow we're going to San Diego, Michael wants to go to the Air Museum. We will supposedly leave at 0830. I'll believe it when it happens. :)

I have read several blogs that mention goals for the New Year. I always have the same 2.
1) be in my Bible more often and more consistently
2) lose weight. This year I'm changing it to making healthier food choices and the whole family
has volunteered to join me. YEA!

This year I'm adding a 3rd.
3) open my home to friends for food and fellowship

In years past Michael and I have always talked about having people over for dinner. We decided that the magic day would be when we owned our own home. Well, that day has come and gone. We bought and sold the house and are now living 45 mins from most of our friends, in base housing. There is always an excuse for why this week end doesn't work; bottom line is I'm lazy and a perfectionist. What a combo huh?! See, in order to have guest the house has to be in perfect order and the meal grand. When you work and travel at least 1 and 1/2 hours a day, keeping house falls to the bottom of the priority list. (lazy)

We have made some very wonderful friends in the 5 years that we have lived in the area. Friends that have opened their homes to us, invited us in for Bible study and fellowship, helped us fix our cars and transported us when needed. I know that these friends are true friends and didn't extend themselves to us expecting anything in return! However, in reflection it saddens me to remember how often I didn't say thank you or to realize that I've been too wrapped up in me and mine to open my own home.

So, though my timing is a bit off, there is no time like NOW to follow through with something we have always WANTED to do. We may be leaving in July and the tendency is to start pulling back and focusing on what comes next. I do not want to do that! Like I said we've made some good friends and I would like to solidify that friendship. Besides God and The Marine Corps seems to find great humor in moving us away from 29 Palms for a spell only to bring us right back! I always wondered what it was I wasn't learning that caused us to keep coming back.

Those are my goals.
