Success

Today was the day we had our first guest. I put the roast in the crock pot and Gab finished filling it with veggies. It was loaded. We turned it on high and left for Church.

When we got home it smelled good. When I checked it the meat was still uncooked. OH NO! I knew I should have put that roast in the pot last night! What to do. I turned on the oven and put the roast in a pan in the oven. After much debate, hubby decided to go to the store and get crackers and cheese; who knew when we'd actually eat. Then I called a friend. I was spastic; trying very hard to remain calm. She reassured me that I was doing the right things and that the roast should be done in an hour. Then she prayed with me. That was really nice and helped me take a deep breathe and calm down. This family has actually been to my house before and we know that we get along well. It isn't like I was trying to impress.

They showed up and then Michael came in and we all pigged on crackers while we waited on the main course. Then I burned the first round of corn bread. Fortunately, I only made one box, so I mixed up the other box and tried again.

If you focus on the sweet fellowship and the ability to laugh at and with my mistakes then it is safe to declare the meal a success. Certainly not flawless!! The fellowship was wonderful. I always enjoy this family when we spend time together.

I do hope to learn how to relax and allow things to flow. I have had people to dinner before and handled it very well. I know I can do it, I'm just out of practice. I'll just have to invite them back again. :)

I'm glad that you had a successful day despite the difficulties! Good practice for every day life!

All the better! I'm sure all the "do-overs" only served to make your guests feel more at ease. It would have for me. I'm always intimidated when things are too perfect; and that makes it stressful to hope I'll be able to reciprocate.

Thank you for your words of encouragement and your prayers! I'll be praying for your family also. No matter what our plans are, God's are always better, exceeding all that we can ever ask or imagine.

Hi Robin,

Lena is the name of a woman in a book entitled "Lena" by Margaret Jensen. You would love it. This lady also wrote "First We Have Coffee" which you would love too!

Being that I know the family who was at your house, I know that they laugh easily and are definitely ones who focus on the fellowship! :) I admire your quick thinking and "fixing" skills!

Now I'm craving roast. ;)
